Mandatory Sports

Dear Parents,

As you all would appreciate and understand, sports are an integral part of a student’s life at Aitchison. The objective and ethos of the College centers on character and personality development that takes place not only in the classroom but also on the sports field. Competitive team and individual sports impart fundamental life skills such as leadership, team work, resilience and fortitude. Moreover, structured and regular physical activity is imperative for better health and mental wellbeing. A healthy body certainly leads to a healthy mind!

From the beginning of the academic year 2025/26 the College (Prep and Senior School) shall strictly enforce compulsory sports for all boys twice a week. Boys would select two sports of their choice while one sport will be allocated to them by the College administration.  On games day, they will come in their regular school uniform along with their sports kit. Lockers would be provided to all boys to store their kit. After school, they will change into the sports uniform and a sit down nutritional meal/lunch will be served to all in the Shamim Khan Hall and in the boarding houses. The charges for the meal will be included in the term fee. After half an hour of rest, boys will go to their respective games session where attendance will be taken by a Master on Duty before and after the game. Day boys will go home after the sports session - college transportation would be provided to them if they opt for it.  The details of the two day weekly sports shall be shared with you very soon.

As sports is mandatory and considered an essential part of education at Aitchison, continued or habitual absence from weekly sports is strongly discouraged and will have serious consequences.  A minimum attendance record of 90 percent (including approved absences) in sports shall be required to qualify for any leadership position (academic and non-academic) in the College. Sports attendance during the term would be recorded on the student transcript along with school or classroom attendance. Moreover, a substantial fine will be imposed if a student is absent from games without a genuine and verified reason. Medical leaves will be approved by the College Doctor.

We hope that as parents you understand the value of sports and the world-class sporting facilities and opportunities Aitchison provides to every student. We want all our boys to get the maximum benefit from what the College has to offer and in doing so truly imbibe the Aitchison spirit and experience in its entirety.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. S.M. Turab Hussain
