Aitchison Challenge Cup (1903)
The Aitchison Challenge Cup was donated by the family of Sir Charles Aitchison, and presented to the College by his daughter in 1903. It is awarded to the best athlete of the year. The original cup is now housed within the Archive Display Centre and contains engravings of the names of cup holders spanning a period of more than a century.
Principal J.C. Godley wrote of this cup in the 1902-1903 Annual Report of the Aitchison College:“Founder's Day was celebrated this year on 6th March, when Miss Aitchison, daughter of the Founder of the College, presented the prizes to the winners in the sports. Miss Aitchison at the same time presented to the College a very handsome Challenge Cup, a present from Lady Aitchison and the family in memory of the Founder, Sir Charles Aitchison. This Cup will be presented annually to the best Athlete. It was won this year by Mir Ghulam Raza Khan.”Engraved on the base of the cup is the following text:
“I WAS WROUGHT TO COMMEMORATE THE FOUNDER OF THIS COLLEGE SIR CHARLES AITCHISON KCSI BY COMMAND OF HIS WIDOW & CHILDREN IN THE YEAR 1902.”and
“OMAR RAMSDEN AND ALWYN C.E. CARR MADE ME.”

Messages on the publication of the first issue
Of the Aitchisonian Magazine College’s Golden Jubilee in 1936
The First Issue of the Aitchisonian – March 1936
The Editorial
It is clear that an institution such as Aitchison College ought to have a Magazine. Moreover, a tradition has grown up that every issue of a Magazine should be heralded by a few paragraphs from the editorial pen. This places the editorial staff in an embarrassing position as by the editorial, men are apt to judge the Magazine as a whole. However, in this, the first issue of "The Aitchisonian", an editorial is doubly necessary. Thus, having justified the existence of both Magazine and editorial, we can only apologize for their respective short-comings, which we hope to improve with experience and encouragement.
This Magazine should serve as a record of our corporate life, sometimes a life of achievement, sometimes of failure, but always of endeavour. Thus it will provide a link between past and present. It should chronicle the acts of the present generation as a fitting consummation of those of the past to which we owe so much and as an inspiration for those of the future from which we hope still more.
Thus we make a special appeal to Old Boys to keep in touch with us and to further that bond of spiritual and cultural enlightenment which we hope to establish as a hall-mark of all who have received their education at Aitchison College.
Finally, we would like to thank the distinguished personages who have been gracious enough to send us messages of inspiration.

Message from His Excellency Sir Herbert Willam Emerson, K.C.S.I., C.I.E., C.B.E., I.C.S.,
Governor of the Punjab
I am very glad to hear that the Aitchison College is starting a School Magazine. Apart from its value to boys at the College, and I hope they will be frequent contributors to its pages, it will be of great interest to the Old Boys, The Aitchison College has always been fortunate in the fact that the Old Boys have maintained their connection with the College and their affection towards it, and a College Magazine will help to strengthen this bond, I wish it every success.

Message from Lieutenant Colonel H. Wilberforce-Bell, C.I.E.,
The Honourable Agent to the Governor General, Punjab States.
I am very pleased to learn that upon the important occasion of the Jubilee of the Aitchison College the first College Magazine will appear. As I have not seen the matter of which it will be composed I cannot very well offer the Editor at this stage my congratulations, but I feel sure that I shall be able to do so after the first number has appeared.
A School Magazine is always of interest both to parents and to boys, and it plays an even more important function in making for "esprit de corps" and for enabling Old Boys to keep in touch with their "alma mater."
For fifty years the Aitchison College has played a most important part in the education of members of the Ruling Families of the Punjab States as well as of the landed gentry of the province. Its Old Boys are the first to recognise the benefits which its educational advantages have conferred upon them and are ever ready to recognise the value which each of these divisions has received from contact with the other.
I am not unaware of the interest which the Government of India have always taken in the College and in its welfare, and in welcoming this first number of the Magazine on behalf of the States of the Punjab States Agency I have no doubt that I echo the feelings of all Old Boys from those States, be they Rulers or subjects, in wishing the Magazine all success and prosperity. I have every confidence that it will play a valuable part in school life no less than in enhancing the reputation of the institution which has come to its present condition of prosperity through the interest and affection of those who have guided its destinies or been guided by it in the past fifty years.

Message from Lieutenant General His Highness Maharaja Sir Bhupindra Singh Mohindra Bahadur of Patiala, G.C.S.I., G.C.I.E., G.C.V.O., G.B.E., LL.D., AD.C.
An Old Boy of Aitchison College
As an Old Boy of Aitchison College I welcome the decision to publish a College Magazine. The idea commonly prevalent in India that the activities of an educational institution should be confined to instruction in the class rooms was never accepted in Aitchison College, which, through its residential system and its interest in outdoor games, always emphasized the necessity of developing the outside interests of its pupils. The publication of the College Magazine is to my mind an indication of the growing intellectual curiosity of the students and is therefore in every way to be welcomed.
Looked at from this point of view a College Magazine is a necessity more than a luxury for an educational institution like the Aitchison College and there could be no more appropriate occasion than the present one of the Golden Jubilee of the College to start it. I am sure that the magazine will serve not only as a forum for the students of the College but as a channel of communication between the Old Boys and their alma mater. It will also be a suitable commemoration of an important landmark in the History of the College. On behalf of the Princes and aristocracy of the Punjab I send my cordial greetings to the Magazine and wish it all success,
