From Observation to Understanding: Exploring Craft at 'Kalamkaar'

On 12 September 2026, Prep School Art & Design Department organised a study tour to ‘Kalamkaar’ Furniture Factory and Display Showroom for fifty students, extending learning beyond the classroom into the world of design and craftsmanship.

Rooted in the belief that meaningful art education begins with careful observation and direct experience, the visit encouraged students to look closely, ask questions, and understand how ideas evolve through materials, processes, skills, and thoughtful design decisions. Mr. Qais Rehman, an Aitchison alumnus and owner of ‘Kalamkaar’, personally guided the students through the showroom and production areas, sharing valuable insights into furniture making and traditional craftsmanship.

The experience enabled students to connect observation with inquiry, heritage with contemporary design, and classroom learning with real-world creative practice.

Light, Shadow, and Form: Annual Photography Competition 2026

On 10th  September, the Art and Design Department, Prep School, organised the Annual Photography Competition 2026: Light, Shadow & Form, at the Football Grounds.

The competition was designed around a simple idea: to look is not always to observe. Students were encouraged to slow down and notice how light transforms familiar surroundings, revealing shapes, shadows, textures, patterns, and forms that might otherwise go unnoticed.

By exploring different viewpoints and making their own compositional choices, students experienced photography as more than capturing an image; it became a process of observation, experimentation, and visual thinking. The activity encouraged them to discover the extraordinary within the ordinary and to see their everyday environment with greater curiosity and awareness.

From Aitchison to the World: Navigating Global University Admissions

On Saturday, 12th September, H1 parents were welcomed to the Old Building for a University Admissions Information Session designed to provide students' families with an overview of the university planning process and guidance on how best to support their sons as they begin their A Levels.

Dr Naila Burney Chughtai, Head of All International and National Admissions (except US), opened the session with a presentation on university admissions across local and international destinations. Sharing recent university outcomes, she highlighted the range of pathways available to Aitchison students and emphasised the importance of keeping an open mind and considering multiple options when planning for university.

Ms Sarah Malik, Head of US Admissions, followed with a presentation focusing specifically on the US university admissions process. She addressed some of the questions most frequently raised by parents, including scholarships and financial aid, developing a balanced college list, identifying universities that offer the right academic, financial, and personal fit, and managing expectations within an increasingly competitive US admissions landscape.

A central message throughout both presentations was the importance of academic performance during the "A Level" years. Parents were reminded that while extracurricular activities, leadership, service, and other interests can add important dimensions to a student's profile, they should complement rather than come at the expense of academics. Students were encouraged to pursue meaningful involvement while maintaining a healthy and purposeful balance.

The presentations also reinforced the value of starting the university planning process early. By engaging with the counselling team during H1, students and families have time to explore different options, understand requirements, identify areas for development, and make informed decisions rather than approaching university applications as a last-minute exercise.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, allowing parents to raise questions directly with the counselling team. Parents were then invited to continue conversations informally over tea, bringing an informative and engaging morning to a close.

Creating, Exploring and Innovating: Upper Primary Clubs and Activities 2026-2027

On Friday, 11th September 2026, curiosity, creativity, and innovation took centre stage across Upper Primary as the first Mandatory Clubs and Activities session of the 2026–2027 academic year began with great energy and enthusiasm. Learners engaged in hands-on experiences that promoted creativity, environmental awareness, collaboration, and critical thinking.

In K4, learners participated in “Box to Brilliance,” under the motto, “Turn the Ordinary into Extraordinary.” As young eco-designers, they upcycled everyday household waste into creative gift boxes and treasure chests, developing fine motor, design, and presentation skills. Each learner proudly took home their handcrafted creation, along with a Creator Tag and an Eco-Pledge.

K5 learners explored “The Story Forge,” working collaboratively as young authors and writers. They created original characters, developed storylines, illustrated pages, and produced handmade storybooks. The activity enhanced their creative writing, visual design, narrative planning, and teamwork skills.

In K6, learners became investigative cryptographers in “Eco-Code Breakers,” creating substitution cipher wheels to encode and decode secret messages. By incorporating eco-friendly ideas into their messages, they combined critical thinking and problem-solving with environmental awareness in an engaging and interactive way.
