ACOBA reversed the tide again in basketball where the old boys dominated in the second half and pulled away to clinch the match 43
- 28. The Aitchison team gave a strong fight, but ultimately fell short. Illustrious seniors like Mr. Jahangir Elahi (Captain of the ACOBA
team) and Mr. Arif Saeed participated inthe festivities.
As always, cricket was the centre of attention in a highly charged setting at the ACOBA Cricket Ground (shifted from the MCG due to
adverse weather). Aitchison Cricket Team under the guidance of Coach Riaz and Jonathan Wright did extremely well to score 241 in
40 overs in spite of the fall of some early wickets. An incredible innings of 156 not out by Abbas was a feast for all in the audience and
will forever shine in the Aitchison cricketing history. In reply, ACOBA struggled and ultimately fell short by many runs. Faridooun was
simply unplayable bagging 7 precious ACOBA wickets. It was ‘indeed’ a great day of cricket for Aitchison in front of an auspicious
gathering. Aitchison Principal and staff (along with their families) and many prominent old boys including Mian Afzal Hayat, Mr.
Munir Monnoo, President, Vice-President, General Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, Director Sports of ACOBA and ACOBA
CEC Members graced the occasion.
Tent-Pegging lived up to its glory and brought out throngs of horsing old boy enthusiasts from all over the country back to Aitchison.
Aitchison College won the individual first prize, but ACOBA dominated the team-of-four event led by Mr. ShahzadSultan, resulting in
an overall tie. The showmanship was amazing with riders donning traditional turbans as they came charging down the field. Ali
Salman (Old Boy) and Dr. Andrew Treharne (Vice Principal ) distributed the prizes amongst the winners at the auspicious gathering
alongwith Mr. Shahjahan Ayub (President ACOBA).
The Aitchison Challenge Cup was tied 3 - 3. ACOBA applauds the hard and dedicated work of the Aitchison Sporting Department,
Office of the Bursar, Alumni Office and the Grounds Staff. A special mention must be made of the cricket ground staff and
management, as it was impressive how the Cricket Match was executed and organized during extremely adverse weather. Mr. Bhatti
was superb with his camera, showing his versatility in handling the exciting sporting action. ACOBA thanks the College
administration for their hospitality and arrangement of wonderful afternoon teas throughout the competitions.
