Old Aitchisonian Justice Yahya Afridi took oath as the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court on Friday 30 January, 2016. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra administered the oath at the Governor’s House in Peshawar. and the youngest chief justice of the PHC. He also has the distinction of becoming the first Chief Justice of the high court from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).Born on Jan 23, 1965, Justice Afridi hails from Kohat Frontier Region. He did his A Levels from Aitchison College, Lahore where he was awarded the Full College Sports Blazer and the Gen. Umar Hayat Gold Medal in 1982. He was also the Head boy of the College.Justice Afridi later did his LL B from Law College, Punjab University, in 1988, and his LL.M from Jesus College, Cambridge University, UK, in 1990. He was enrolled as an advocate of the high court in 1991 and that of the Supreme Court in 2004. He was elevated to the bench as an additional judge on March 15, 2010 and confirmed as permanent judge of the PHC on March 15, 2012.It is to be noted that two sitting Chief Justices are Old Aitchisonians, the other one being Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of the Lahore High Court.
