Term 1 has proven that schools such as Aitchison with ample space and adoption of strict protocols is one of the safest places for children to be during the pandemic. The advantage of attending school as a boarder is very clear: positive socialisation, academic advantage, sport and routine. Boarders are taught both in class and in boarding houses on alternate days. Isolate your son from large gatherings prior to returning to school for a week. We would rather a late arrival than someone arriving who has to be sent back home for quarantine and testing. So make sure when your son leaves for school that he has no flu-like symptoms. The same applies to your son if he has been near to someone who has tested positive. In this case, he should be tested before returning to school. Aitchison will require PCR testing on any boy it feels may be at risk or who exhibits flu-like symptoms. Each boy will carry a pass indicating that he has been approved by the doctor. He will then report to the housemaster before entering a dormitory. We look forward to welcoming boarders back for a January 11 start, but we also wait for final confirmation from the government on all schooling.
