AITCHISON ENGAGES THE WORLD
Mr. Simon Murray introduces staff to Positive Psychology
Mr. Simon Murray led our Professional Development Day and introduced staff to ‘Positive Psychology in Education’; an approach to
education that blends academic learning with character & well-being. This was a thoughtful and beneficial day that will enhance the
effectiveness of our teaching practice, whichis first about 'the students’ and then the subject.
Mr. Murray is the former Headmaster of St Peter's College, Adelaide, Australia, a recipient of an Order of Australia for services to
education, Fellow of the Australian College of Education, former Chair of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of
Australia and Chair of the Positive Education Society of Australia.
Many great schools across the world are employing the approach of ‘Positive Psychology’ to learning and teaching programmes.
Aitchison is naturally the first school in Pakistan to investigate a holistic pastoral approach that sits very comfortably with our aims.
Well-being is more than ‘happiness’; it runs to the core of 'who we are when we are at our best': essentially character development
and howwe can relate even better as acommunity with clear ideas in mind as to howwe recognise 'positiveness' and personal growth
inthe act of nurturing every boy's self-esteem. The Principal, Mr. Thomson, will be holding further meetings with staff and parents in
due course. The introduction of ‘Positive Psychology’ will also be presented to the new Board of Governors this year.
Professor Mathew Balliol College graduates
McCartney to engage students at Aitchison
mentor Aitchison students Aitchison College welcomes three Balliol College graduates, Mr. Rudin Petrossian
Byrne (Ireland), Mr. Prince Makawa Abudu (Zimbabwe) and Ms. Reema Riaz (Pakistan)
to engage with senior students in various studies. This is the first batch of Balliol
graduates who join us as part of a unique arrangement with Aitchison. All will be
accommodated on campus and be fully involved with teaching and tutorials - and some
in sport. Several of our own graduates have also expressed an interest in pursuing
careers in the teaching profession. We will continue to maintain this valuable
connection with young, outstanding graduates.
Professor Mathew McCartney (Oxford
University and Head of South Asian
Studies) will soon be with Aitchison for
some time in-residence to assist with
Oxbridge preparations. His stay will
include talks applying to Oxford and
helping with applications, mentoring
boys and observing school processes.
