MAJOR LANGLANDS’ 100TH BIRTHDAY
CELEBRATED AT AITCHISON COLLEGE
Aitchison College celebrated the 100th Birthday of Major Geoffrey
Douglas Langlands on Saturday 21st October, 2017 to honour his
lifetime of remarkable service to the country and the cause of educa-
tion in particular.
Several dignitaries graced the occasion. Minister Higher Education,
Syed Raza Ali Gillani, Chief Justice Lahore High Court SyedMansoorAliShah and UK Defence and Military Advisor Brig. B P Edwards
OBE were present at the event to honour the Major.
Syed Babar Ali, Mr. Arif Saeed, Professor Javed Akram, Mr. Kamil
Khan Mumtaz, Dr. Umar Saif, Mr. Salman Akram Raja, Mian Muham-
mad Afzal Hayat, Mr. Yousuf Salahuddin and Miangul Adnan Aurang-
zeb were also in attendance.
Mr. Ali Sibtain Fazli, senior advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan
and Ms. Carey Scholfield, Principal Langlands School spoke at the
occasion in praise of Major Langlands and his service to the country.
This was followed by a speech by Principal Aitchison College Mr.
Michael A. Thomson who presented to him the Queen of England’s
telegram for his birthday. The Chitral Association for Education and
Health also presented an award to Major Langlands.
There was a brief cake cutting ceremony which was followed by tea.
Major G.D. Langlands served Aitchison College for 25 years before
taking up the challenging job of Principal at Cadet College in Razmak.
His service to Pakistan has been wide and varied, but he is best
known for the school named in his honour: the Langlands School and
College, Chitral. The Major is also an official living legend of Pakistan
who served in three armies - British, Indian and Pakistan armies.
After running the Langlands School and College for 24 years, he
stepped down at the age of 94 and chose Aitchison College as his
home after retirement, where he continues to live in the Bahawalpur
House.
