Thalay La Trek
2023
"We don't stop trekking because we
grow old, we grow old because we
stop trekkingڙ
Aitchison College resumed trekking
in 2019. The tour group consisted of
18 students lead by the Mr. Shahid
Mehmood Aslam, highly experienced
trekker along with 4 group members
set off from Lahore on June 17th and
returned on the 24th June 2023. They
traveled from Lahore to Naran,
Skardu and a trek connecting the
Thallay Valley to Shigar via the
spectacular Thalay La (4790 meters
above sea level).
During the course of the trek the
party engaged in a wide array of
activities. These not only included
traveling and hiking, but also enjoying
the night time sky through stargazing.
T h e s t u d e n t s h a d t h e r a r e

a n d t rave l i n g to s o m e of t h e
northernmost passes of Pakistan. At
these high altitudes they were also
able to visit the Sarfaranga Cold
dessert, taking part in a desert Safari
and enjoying dune buggies at an
altitude of 7500 feet above sea level.
The group stopped at the Shigar
Fort, one of the oldest and most
historically significant military
encampment turned hotel and
museum at a staggering height of
7320 feet. Over the course of the trek
the team members camped outdoors
near the Thallay village and Thallay
Pass these being some of the key
highlights of the trek. The trekking
team skillfully combatted all the
challenges, ranging from medical to
logistical issues, that came their way.
This trip was a ravaging success.
