At your doorstep squats the BEAST
Seven sevens are its rending teeth
Flensed and famished it craves release
With blood and bone join the feast
The life-giver’s beacon there sighing fled
Its amber rays lighting the eyes of the dead
And yet it flew on, white wings on sullen reds
Bearing coin red and gold and glistering though
Unweave the warp and weft of breath
Swallow the burning candle of death
Famine stalks fathomless depths

From the sea-steed the voice-bearer leapt
Their bone-house hitting the harbour steps
And yet none saw as their shadow crept
Away from coin red and gold and burning though
“Goods I bear now
Gold all aglimmer
Wondrous mirrors
Word bearers afar
Rings holding well
Roaring beasts ensnared
Damascened swords
Serpent-slaying
