ACMUN'S VICTORY
The Aitchison College Model United Nations Society participated in the Harvard Model United Nations Conference China
held virtually from August 19th to 22nd. The conference was a highly contested one, with delegates from several countries
participating, including the United States of America, Canada, India, Pakistan and China. The committees were highly
contested, but despite all hurdles our delegates performed exceptionally well winning 4 Best Delegate Awards, 3
Outstanding Delegate Awards and 2 Honourable Mentions. Overall, the ACMUN Society was awarded the Best Large
Delegation Award at HMUN China, a first for not just Aitchison, but Pakistan as a whole.

& TECHNOLOGY
Maaz Asher Khurram (Class of 2013) was recently named in the 2021
Foreign Minister's Honours List of ‘Leaders under 40'. The list honours 25
Overseas Pakistanis for their exceptional performance and leadership in
the fields of Science and Innovation, Community Service, Arts and Culture,
Entrepreneurship and Sports. He was nominated from the United States,
alongside Wardah Inam, CEO of a dental AI startup from MIT called
'Overjet', for their contributions in ‘Science and Innovation’. He is currently
pursuing his PhD in Stem Cell Biology at NYU School of Medicine.
At Aitchison, he received the College academic blazer and was actively involved in extracurricular activities. After graduating
from Aitchison, he went to University of California, Berkeley for biomedical science and later upon recommendation from
Nobel Laureate Dr. Jennifer Doudna, he spent a year at Osaka University in Japan as a Frontier Lab fellow. During his time in
the University of Copenhagen, he served as a Santander Scholar to study and develop healthcare policy for aging populations.
After graduating from Berkeley, Maaz was recruited as a researcher at the Gladstone Institutes for three years under Nobel
Laureate Dr. Shinya Yamanaka, whose landmark discoveries have led to cutting-edge stem cell therapies and inspired the
further development of mRNA technology enabling Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine.
