One of the chief memories of Old Boys is the grounds and gardens of Aitchison. Few schools in the world boast such majestic
trees of so many varieties. This year, a great initiative was taken to plant and preserve trees in the College campus. So far, we
have planted dozens of new sheeshams, jamans, silk cottons, pipals, kachnars, general hedges and cypress replacements.
Special attention focused on those mighty sentinels at the Old Building -Cypress Avenue and their battle with climate
change. University botanists were called to inspect the trees and advise on preservation and regeneration.
Our gardens and grounds have defied the covetous arms of urban development. Sanctuary to myriad birds and animal life,
home to bees and honey production, generations of boys have been subtly influenced by nature's gift nourished by a network
of ingenious canals. This legacy is cared for and replenished by hard working malis, led by our Head of Grounds,
Mr.Muhammad Aslam. He has been associated with Aitchison College for more than three decades and we interviewed him
to reveal his thoughts. Mr. Aslam described the College as home of more than 106 varieties of trees. Since 2016, he said about
2700 trees have been planted; the total number of trees in the College now being 10500. Acute canal flooding is regularly
done for all the grounds once a month or as per the weather requirements to maintain their lush green beauty. In recent
times, he has concentrated on winter planting to enhance pollen production. Our playing grounds have welcomed many
National & International teams to practice and play a variety of sports. No doubt the excellent College cricket wickets
standout. Aitchison gardeners celebrate annual awards for winning the 'Chrysanthemum Show' and ‘Best Gardens’.
Muhammad Aslam also shared his gratitude for the (Principal) Mr. Michael Thomson, (Bursar) Mr.Khalid Mohammad Noon,
all Heads of Schools Ms. Amina ,Ms FatimaMubeen and Mr.Raja Ashfaq for their guidance in helping the staff work in an
optimum way. We thank Mr. Muhammad Aslam, his staff for their skilled efforts on behalf of all those who treasure the
school.
