WELLINGTON
COLLEGE TOUR
ARCHIVES UPDATE
Call for Archival Material
A group of Aitchisonians visited
Wellington College in Berkshire,
England in February with Head-
mistress Senior School, Ms.
Amina Kamran. The boys were
given a brief tour of the campus,
where
they
were
able
to
observe
Harkness
class
in
Maths; a learning method being
actively adopted at Aitchison
College. Wellington’s mathe-
matics department has written
its own Harkness course materi-
als and is spearheading the
Harkness
philosophy
within
mathematics education in the
UK.
Old Aitchisonian Mr. QasimHasanSayed,
mathematics
teacher at Wellington College
and an Oxbridge mentor has
been helping the College in
setting up a working partner-
ship with Wellington and was
instrumental in organising this
tour.
The tour provided international
exposure to students and a
deeper understanding of the
Harkness vision. It also offered
excellent mentoring for mathe-
matically gifted Senior School
pupils.
We are grateful to Mr. Majid
Khan, Old Aitchisonian and
one
of
Pakistan’s
greatest
cricket legends for his invalu-
able contribution to the Col-
lege’s Archives. He has donat-
ed his Junior Cadet cap from
his time at Aitchison, along
with his international cricket
blazer of 1982 that he wore on
his last international cricket
tour to England before retiring
from international cricket. Mr.
Majid Khan served as Chief
Executive
of
the
Pakistan
Cricket Board (PCB) from May
1996 to June 1999. He still
remains connected with PCB.
We also thank Mr. Bazid Khan
for donating his cricket shirt
and
international
cricket
blazer of 1996.
These contributions will add
great value to our existing
collections.
