TENT PEGGING COMPETITION
A pilot trip was taken in March to Gilgit- Baltistan in northern Pakistan with the intention to revive the
dormant trekking club at Aitchison College. Mr. Shahid Mehmood Aslam (Senior Director Games and
Sports) Mr. Zubair Ata (Incharge Welfare Discipline Senior School and Housemaster Bahawalpur
House), Mr. Asad Ur Rehman (Old Aitchisonian and Jubilee Medal holder), Mr. Hamid Hussain (owner of
Mountain Travels Pakistan) and Syed Qasim Abbas of H1 participated in this trip.
The team reviewed the area, after which they felt comfortable recommending the revival of trekking and
related activities at the College. The awe-inspiring mountains, the fast developing state of the art infra-
structure and the expertise of the travel company provided them the best possible incentives for initiat-
ing trekking trips in the future.
The first formal trip is being planned for June/July, 2018. Initially a
small group of boys from H1 will be taking the trip and later we can
get both Prep and Senior Schools involved in a more elaborate way.
Meeting and briefing sessions will be organized for parents and
students to address any concerns with regard to these trips. In order
to ensure that boys are physically fit to endure such trips, a brief
training camp will be organised to help them prepare for these activ-
ities.
Such trips have emotional advantages as they ensure that students
bind together and enjoy creating memories that will stay with them
for the rest of their lives. Students learn to sacrifice, cooperate,
adapt to situations and develop character that can benefit them in
the years to come. By visiting different parts of the country and
enhancing their knowledge about those areas, the boys are likely to
develop a keen sense of ownership and responsibility towards their
country.
