ACOBA UPDATES
Old Boys Gathering In United Arab Emirates (Dubai)
ACOBA (U.A.E.) and Mr. Umar Saleem (Class of 1988), along with the recently launched “Friends of Aitchison” initiative (based in
New York City, USA) represented by Mr. Usman Malik and Mr. Mahmud Yar Hiraj (both Class of 1994) arranged a gathering and
dinner in honour of Mr. & Mrs. Michael Thomson on 03-March, 2023 in Dubai. The dinner was attended by over 60 Old Boys
residing in UAE along with few Old Boys who special flew in from other GCC/MENA countries. The. ACOBA President Mr. Usman
Haq and the Central Executive Committee pays its compliments to the Old Boys in the GCC/MENA region for supporting this
initiative aimed at financially supporting deserving students at Aitchison College.
ACOBA Annual General Meeting (AGM) - 2023
Due to Covic-19 restrictions by the government and the school administration's strict implementation of Covid-19 SOPs,
including no permission for gatherings, no ACOBA AGMs were held in the last couple of years. The AGM took place on 30-April,
2022 at the Junior School Hall and was deferred and held on 06-November-2022 at the Old Building Hall, Aitchison College. Mr.
Omer Qureshi (General Secretary) informed the house that Quorum was present and the meeting started with the recitation of
the Holy Quran by Dr. Sumair. Mr. Jalal Ansan (Treasurer) presented audited accounts for the three years ended on 31-December
of 2019, 2020, 2021 and highlighted their salient features. The audited accounts were approved by the general body. Auditors for
the next year were also proposed and approved by the general body.
Mr. Shahjahan Ayub (President) thanked the ACOBA Central Executive Committee for their tireless work in supporting the
College, including renovation of the college hospital, which was a great need of the hour. Setting up of new isolation rooms has
equipped the hospital to better address quarantine situations. Old Boys gave a long round of applause to the President's
speech. The President assured the members present that ACOBA shall continue to work for the betterment of the College with
the support of the honourable Old Boys and shall also keep the alumni engaged. He also thanked Mr. Michael Thomson
(Principal) and the college administration for their continuous support of ACOBA and Old Boys activities. After the meeting, the
honorable members proceeded for tea and snacks. Old Boys thoroughly enjoyed the AGM held at the wonderful venue (Old
Building) along with their class fellows and friends. As always, Dean's hot dogs were the favourite snack of everyone!
