THE PASSING OF LEGENDARY
PRINCIPAL SHAMIM SAIFULLAH KHAN
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of a beloved principal,
Shamim Khan on Sunday, June 12, 2022.He served Aitchison from 1994 to 2008 and
again from 2013 to 2014.
Mr. Shamim Saifullah Khan received his early education at Lawrence College, Ghora
Gali, and subsequently joined Aitchison College as a student to complete his HSC.
Despite the brevity of his stay, he became a Prefect, earned his tennis colours, and
won the prestigious Jubilee Medal upon leaving in 1956. Mr. Shamim Khan gained a
Tripos in Economics and Law from Cambridge, and later an Advanced Diploma in
Education from the University of Hull. After a decade of teaching in his hometown,
Peshawar, between 1961 and 1972, he returned to the U.K. where he worked until
1992, his last responsibility being as Senior Consultant to the Berkshire Education
Authority.
Mr. Shamim Saifullah Khan has the distinction of being the first Old Aitchisonian to have become Principal of his alma mater and
holds the privilege of having served the College for nearly fifteen years. He is responsible for orchestrating a critical
remodeling of the college system regarding discipline, student affairs, and college operations—taking decisions that allowed
the College to function in a manner that it could fulfill its inherent potential. After retiring in 2008, he served the college again
between 2013 and 2014. His speeches, delivered at college assemblies and formal ceremonies, hold legendary status for those
who were present during his time. Mr. Shamim Saifullah Khan often talked about honesty and integrity and instilled national
integration and harmony amongst the diverse student body at Aitchison. He is remembered fondly by both faculty and
students as a great disciplinarian who believed in leading by example. We offer our condolences to Shamim's family. May his
soul rest in peace.
PASSING OF SYED MOHAMMAD MOHSIN
We are sad to announce the passing of an old Aitchisonian, Syed Mohammad
Mohsin, former Chairman of Mitchell's Fruit Farms Ltd., on Tuesday, July 12th, 2022.
He was a successful and enterprising business leader for over 60 years in the food
and agriculture based industry. After joining Aitchison College in 1938, he grew to
become a well-admired Godleyite and earned the Full College Blazer. The College
boys always looked up to him as their idol. After completing his HSC in 1948, he
received a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Cambridge University, UK, in 1953.
Concurrently, he appeared for CSS exams and stood first in Pakistan. He started his
professional career with Pakistan Tobacco Company. Here is an excerpt from an
interview with Syed Mohammad Mohsin's memories about Aitchison College,
published in 2018.
“It is extremely important for a young boy to be inspired and stimulated. The
education I received at Aitchison and the environment in which I lived, ignited in me
the ambition to compete, struggle and to do well in life. I joined Aitchison in 1938. The College had just emerged from its earlier
period of being a place for children from privileged and aristocratic families. The aristocratic air had continued for a few years
while I was at Aitchison, but as the atmosphere and the conditions in the Indian sub-continent changed, the British
administration realized that Aitchison College also had to be part of the change. People from different backgrounds, families and
circumstances were admitted into the College. The boys who joined had a stronger spirit of competition. They were much more
industrious and their values were more progressive. This is what stimulated the spirit of competition.” May his soul rest in eternal
peace. Aameen.
Our heartfelt condolences to the family of the departed soul.
