THE PASSING OF MIR BALAKH SHER MAZARI
This is with profound grief and sorrow that the College announces the passing of
one of its veteran oldest Aitchisonians, a political stalwart, the 22nd Sardar and the
7th Mir of the Mazari tribe Mir Balakh Sher Khan Mazari who passed away on Friday,
the 4th of November 2022 at the age of ninety-four. Mir Balakh Sher was admitted to
Aitchison College in October 1939 and left in March 1946. During his time at the
College, he passed the Matriculation Examination with 1st Division and won the
Progress Prize in 1945. He was the recipient of the Literary Prize twice, in 1944 and
1946. Mir Balakh Sher was an outstanding all-round member of the College sports
teams. The captaincy of the College Swimming and Riding teams, as well as his
Colours in Hockey and Cricket earned him the prestigious Full College Sports
Blazer in the summer of 1945. He was also a Kelly House Prefect. After graduating
from Aitchison, Mir Balakh Sher took charge of his ancestral estate at Rojhan Mazari
and discharged his duties as the Tumandar / Tribal Chieftain of the Mazari tribe. He
ventured into politics at a very young age and was elected as Chairman of District
Council Dera Ghazi Khan in 1951. He became the youngest member of the Constituent Assembly in 1955 at the age of 27 and was
also one of the signatories to our country’s First Constitution of 1956. He also supported Begum FatimaJinnah as her ally and
polling agent during the 1964 election against General Ayub Khan. Later, he was also elected as Member of Punjab Assembly
(MPA) in 1970. He was elected as Member of National Assembly (MNA) from his ancestral constituency on a number of
occasions (1962, 1977, 1985, 1990 and 1993). He was also a member of President Zia ul Haq’s Majlis-e-Shoora in 1982. At the
pinnacle of his political career, he was chosen for the highest political office as interim / caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan in
1993. In 2018, despite having retired from active electoral politics, he again came into the political limelight as the Chairman of
the South Punjab Provincial Movement.The College extends its condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.

This year the Founders' Day events will be held from 10th to 12th March, 2023. The Academic Prize Distribution will be held on 11th
March, while the Main Founders' Day (Sports) will be held on 12th March.
Process for getting invites:
Old Boys planning to attend the Main Founders' Day may fill out the registration form at
6th March, 2023. The Alumni officer will dispatch invitation cards to registered alumni.
Note: Registrations must be received by 6 March, 2023.
