Teardrop: A Sea of Emotion
Abdur-RehmanAzim Khan

It ran down my cheek. I couldn’t tell what it was. I was stunned,
speechless, voiceless. Raising my hand to the wetness and feeling it, I suddenly fell down to
my knees and caressed my hand against his forehead.
“Oh please, Ya Raheem, please. Ya Raheem, he has suffered too much, I cannot save him, but
you can, and You are the only one who can, You like to help. I need Your help, so please, help
me in this desperate time of need,” I muttered.
In shock, I recited this repeatedly, sobbing and dropped my head on his chest, “Don’t leave
now; you’ve fought so much. So fight, just one more time.”
I choked on my words, and all I could utter were stuttering sounds. Hot tears streamed
down my face, one by one, and I tried to shut my eyes in hopes for them to stop. I sat there
for some time, unmoving in shock, with my choppy breathing and watery eyes. Then, a
wave of anger swept through me. I was enraged, a flame lit inside me. “Why does this
always have to happen to him? What did he do wrong? Why him? Why couldn’t it be me?”
“Hasn’t he suffered too much already?” Cynical thoughts bounced against the inside of my
skull. Incensed, I banged my head on the rough asphalt, which was still wet from the dirty
rain water. Then, he let out a few out a few words, “If you’re wondering why it’s always me
who suffers, it’s because The Eternal Lord has planned it and knows what I can handle, and
what I cannot. Perhaps He has something better in store for me? Just for me, could you let
out even the slightest of smiles? By Allah’s Will, I am going to a better place.” With that, he
merely pointed to the dark, starry sky above our heads.
Just for him, with my nose clogged and my vision blurry, I let out a feeble chuckle and
replied, “Well, you better meet me in heaven.”
