Q.
Had you not become a professional cricketer, which other profession would you have
opted for?
A.
If not a cricketer then I would have loved to become a doctor or maybe I would have joined
the military. It was one of my dreams to do so.
Q.
Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
A.
I see myself playing for the national team or perhaps even as a Captain if my performance
would be good enough. Insha Allah.
Q.
After you are taken up in the PCB’s Men’s Cricket Team, and are able to make a mark in
the field, how would you use the fame and wealth you’d then get for the betterment of
people around you?
A.
If I do reach that level, I would try to promote cricket in our society, provide funding to the
less-privileged, or helping to clean up my area. Generally, I would try to increase living
standards in my hometown.
Q.
Even if one’s ultimate aim is not to become a professional sportsman, is sports still
pertinent to one’s life?
A.
Yes definitely! Because sports teaches you discipline, fair play, teamwork, and keeps you fit
as well. Whether or not to become a sportsman, one should always play some sport; either
cricket, or football, or any other game.
Q.
Having played on the field for years, did you have the experience of playing games
on-screen too? Did you enjoy it equally or not? Why?
A.
Yes I did play a few games like the Subway Surfers, Temple Run and some others. But, I
think, I still enjoy cricket more as nothing matches the thrill and experience of playing a
physical sport on the field.
Q.
Would you like to say something to all the Prep School boys out there, who aspire to take
cricket up or any similar sport for a career?
A.
Work Hard! Work hard in every sport you wish, be it cricket, football or any other. My tip
would be to work massively on your games’ basic technique; and Insha Allah God too
would help.
Q.
Do you think that a sportsman is offered the same reception as someone from any other
profession in our society? Why or why not?
A.
I think we get more respect for playing a sport as we are representing our country and we
become sort of celebrities. , as compared to if we had joined any other profession. And, I
believe there is equal value and fascination towards sport professional practicing
whichever sports.
Q.
Is there any memorable incident from your sport life so far that you’d like to share with
us?
A.
Yes. It is from the days while I was still playing in the Faisal Club Rawalpindi. One
afternoon after school, I hopped on a local car to go to my club, but even before I could
board the vehicle properly, it suddenly sped forward, causing me to stumble out. Then, one
of the tires of the same car ran over my foot causing a fracture. The locals immediately took
a picture of the car’s number plate and soon took me to my father’s office. My father then
took me to the hospital, and got me treated medically, yet asked me to leave cricket for
good. I was really disappointed that day for getting injured and having been asked to leave
my passion. But after I had healed, my father gave me permission to once again pursue
cricket.
