Cloud storage is long-term (secondary) storage located remotely
and accessed via the Internet.
Data is stored on remote servers, usually magnetic (HDD) but
increasingly solid-state (SSD).
Used when RAM is nearly full to keep the computer
running.
Inactive programs and data are moved to virtual memory.
They are moved back to RAM when needed.
Data is stored in pages, which transfer between RAM and
virtual memory as required.
Much slower than RAM, so it reduces system performance.
To avoid using it, increase RAM size.
➤ Cloud Storage
Advantages
Disadvantages
Security - Automatic backups
Reliability - Access data anywhere, any time, from
any device
Capacity - Endless storage space (cost permitting),
uses less space on own device
Collaboration - Multiple people can access the same
file at the same time
Cost - Typically a monthly/yearly
subscription plan
Availability - No access without an
internet connection
