In a manufacturing company, what are the benefits and problems of using robots to
assemble or paint products?
State one disadvantage of using robots in place of human workers in factories.
Explain why automated systems are more reliable than human-operated systems in
some environments.
A weather station uses automated systems to collect and analyse data about
temperature, humidity, and wind speed.
○ (a) Give one other component that would be part of this system.
○ (b) Give one other sensor that could be part of this system.
○ (c) Explain how a temperature above 40°C would be detected and reported.
A greenhouse needs to maintain constant humidity and temperature levels.
○ Describe how the sensors, microprocessor, and actuators work together to
achieve this.
A factory uses an automated robot to spray paint onto car parts.
○ Describe two problems the robot might face when painting.
○ Suggest how these problems could be overcome.
● Explain the difference between monitoring and control in a computer system.
● Give one example of a system that only monitors and one that both monitors and
controls.
● Explain why feedback is necessary in a control system but not in a monitoring system.
