7.1 Program Development Life Cycle
There are four stages of the program development life cycle: analysis, design, coding,
and testing.
● Analysis is used to understand the problem the program intends to solve.
Analysis is further defined with the process of abstraction and decomposition.
Analysis removes unimportant sections to focus on the more important, refined
elements such as functionality and requirements.
● Abstraction allows you to identify the fundamental components of the program,
and allows you to create a document of requirements, simplifying the structure.
● Decomposition is the process of breaking down large problems into manageable
sets of smaller problems.
● Benefits of decomposition are that smaller problems are easier to solve.
Moreover, each smaller problem can be solved and tested independently.
● Developers begin programming pieces of code (modules) in programming
languages, to provide an overall solution. Iterative testing is conducted to ensure
the modules interact accordingly with no errors.
● Some examples of high-level programming languages include Python Visual
Basic, Java, C++, C#, etc.
● It involves using certain techniques to come up with a solution. Examples include
Structure Diagrams, Flowcharts, and Pseudocode.
