ANSWERS:
B) To find the volume of a sphere either the radius of the sphere is required
which can be plugged into the formula or “volume by displacement” method can
be used where the sphere is add to the cylinder and the change in volume of
water is equal to the volume of the sphere. As the radius is unknown the second
method will be used in this case
C) As the water is 40 cm3 the 50 cm3 cylinder will give a more accurate reading
and as water is a colourless liquid, the bottom of the meniscus is to be read for
an accurate reading
A) mass and energy are scalar quantities as they only have a magnitude
attached to them whereas weight and acceleration are vector quantities with
magnitude and direction attached to them
D) Applying the head-to-tail rule where the head of first vector (X) is attached to
tail of second vector (Y). Finally the tail of first vector is attached to head of
second vector to find the resultant (Z)
B) Find average time for 20 oscillations by adding each time and dividing. Then
divide that by 20 to find period of one oscillation
A) A digital balance is used to measure the mass of an object so it is the only
correct option. A measuring cylinder is used to measure volume, a Newton metre
to measure weight and a ruler to measure length so they are all wrong.
C) For this the head-to-tail rule needs to be applied. Vector →OX is equivalent to
vector →ZY so →OX can be replaced by →ZY. Now using the Pythagoras
Theorem we can find the resultant force and by joining the tail of the vector →OZ
to the head of →ZY, we can find the resultant direction. The resultant force
becomes 5N in the direction of →OY so C is our answer.
C) Out of these four quantities only momentum has direction as it considers the
change in velocity. The three rest of the quantities have magnitude only and are
thus scalar. So our option will be C.
