produce copper atoms by gaining electrons. The iron spoon is then covered with a layer of copper
after these copper atoms are applied to its surface. Copper is successfully applied to the iron spoon
by this procedure, giving it an effective protective layer.
Uses of Electroplating:
Metals can be made more resistant to corrosion and damage by electroplating them. For instance,
galvanizing is applying a zinc coating to iron or steel to stop rust, and chromium and nickel plating
is frequently used for protective purposes. Furthermore, electroplating enhances the look of metals.
For example, silver electroplating gives flatware and jewellery a more appealing look.
Hydrogen-Oxygen Fuel Cells
Any material that releases energy when burned is considered a fuel. In order to power specific
vehicles, hydrogen is frequently employed as fuel in fuel cells and rocket engines. A fuel cell is an
electrochemical device in which oxygen receives electrons at one electrode and a fuel, such as
hydrogen, provides electrons at the other.
When hydrogen and oxygen are combined in a hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell, energy is released and
water is produced as a byproduct. This process generates electricity. The hydrogen fuel cell's overall
chemical reaction is:
Water = Hydrogen + Oxygen
