I woke up earlier than usual, not because I had to, but because my
body refused to stay asleep. The dough had been resting overnight,
waiting quietly in the fridge. Rolling out the parathas felt familiar,
even though my hands were still half-asleep.
The tawa heated as I brushed oil over the dough, watching it puff
and brown unevenly. I flipped it a little too early the first time, then
laughed at myself. Some mornings don’t require perfection. I served
them with a fried egg and leftover achar.
Eating at the table, I remembered school mornings when my bag
would be packed and forgotten, when breakfast felt rushed but
necessary. Today, there was no rush. Just the sound of chewing, the
warmth of tea, and the strange comfort of having nowhere else to
be.
