Echoes of a Drowned World
It was 2055. What was once ocean water is now mounds of waste.
What used to be the ocean, vast, deep, and brimming with life, was
now a graveyard of waste. Mountains of plastic, rusted metal, and
thick, sticky sludge stretched endlessly across the horizon. The air
carried a bitter, acrid scent, making it difficult to breathe. This was
the world humans had created, a land where the ocean had been
swallowed by trash.
Lila stood at the edge of a crumbling cliff, staring down at the
wreckage below. At her feet lay tiny fragments of coral, broken
seashells, and faded scraps of plastic. She bent down, picking up a
brittle piece of packaging, its faded letters still readable, "Crispy
Bites." A relic from a time when people consumed without a second
thought, blind to the destruction they left behind. She sighed and
slipped it into her bag, another addition to her growing collection.
Lila was the keeper of the Archive of the Forgotten, a small, rusting
shipping container hidden deep within the settlement. Inside, its
walls were lined with shelves, crammed with remnants of the past,
crushed soda cans, tangled fishing nets, water-stained photographs of
creatures that had once roamed the seas. Each object was a reminder,
a whisper from a lost world.
She kept these things so they would not be forgotten The children in
her settlement, born long after the oceans had disappeared, could not
comprehend a world of endless blue. To them, stories of whales,
dolphins, and coral reefs were as fantastical as flying creatures or
talking trees.
