A Beautiful Experience
As we stepped out of the airport doors, instantly a wave of warm air
smacked me in the face. It was thick with the smell of sea salt and roasted
chestnuts, and the low sun painted the whole scene a vivid orange. My
mother gripped my hand tightly, scared to let her child wander, and led
us to our cab. As the cabbie sped through the streets, I pressed my face to
the window, eyes wide, completely mesmerized. Here it was, Thailand.
The yellow car screeched to a stop, and we stepped out into our hotel.
The humidity was present, but not overbearing, unlike home. Maybe it
was because of the gentle, relaxing breeze, or the vast, blue, sea, so
strangely close by.
Nonetheless, my father checked us into our hotel, and we lugged up the
stairs to our room. I slept watching the calm, ocean waves from a
distance, enthralled in their serenity. Morning arrived with the quiet cries
of gulls outside my window. Sunlight spilled through the pane, a stray ray
of light forcing my eye open. I groggily rose from my deep slumber, and
through a half-lidded eye, looked outside. The whole beach was alive. An
endless strip of sand, spotted with shining seashells and umbrellas
standing tall. It was quite early in the morning, yet the beach buzzed with
life. Children building sandcastles, and paddling in the waves, supervised
by their parents, who were enjoying the gentle breeze from a comfy
chair. I tugged at the sheets until my sister woke up. After me and her
excitedly awakened our parents, we hastily changed out of our comfy
pajamas to experience it for ourselves. The soft sand scorched beneath my
feet, and the air glistened with heat. As I got closer to the shore, waves
sprayed a cool mist on my legs, refreshing my skin. I slowly went into the
sea, not too far from shore, just enough to where I could still stand.
