AC Chronicles
Lila tried her best to describe it, the way the waves danced under the
sun, how the sea smelled fresh and salty, how it felt to have water
embrace you as you swam. But even she struggled to hold onto those
memories, their edges fraying like an old photograph left too long in
the sun.
The oceans had not vanished overnight. They had boiled, blackened,
and choked on plastic until, by 2040, they had simply ceased to be.
Now, only this wasteland remained, a lifeless, sprawling desert of
debris.
Lila turned back towards the settlement, her bag heavier than before.
Behind her, in the distance, she heard the familiar groan of trash
shifting, collapsing in on itself. The land was unstable, dangerous,
but she did not stop.
Because even in this broken world, Lila carried a spark of hope.
Perhaps, if she gathered enough fragments of the past, someone in
the future would finally learn to do better.
