CLUE
The light pierced the inky darkness of the damp alleyway. Strolling
house to house was tedious. My footsteps echoed against the red
brick walls. The incessant tapping noise coming from the sewage
pipes was getting on my nerves.
We had narrowed down a single briefcase of the infamous mafia
leader, De Bruyne, somewhere here in this little town in London.
The head of the police department, Mr. Doyle, would visit us today
and scrutinize the ongoing investigation.
The police vest weighed down on me, and even though we had
been trained for moments like these, it was still exhausting. Just then,
an obscure image of a car came into focus, and I immediately knew
it was Mr. Doyle. He had joined the force a year ago, but I had met
him only once at the welcome ceremony. He was known for his
eccentric behavior and was socially awkward. I turned around to
meet him, extending my hand, but he completely ignored it and
moved past me toward the towering houses.
I was quite baffled and didn't know if I should follow him or not.
His cold demeanor had ticked me off. Shaking this feeling off, I
started walking toward the house.
At the doorstep, right outside the house Mr. Doyle had walked into,
a sudden flicker of color caught my eye. A photograph lay on the
step, obscure and faded, with yellow patches. I stared at the image of
a man with bold features.
I had solved the puzzle.
