Uses Agricultural Land
Land used for energy crops could instead be used for growing food, leading to
food shortages.
2. High Water Usage
Crops like sugarcane need a lot of water, which can worsen water scarcity.
3. Expensive Production
The technology and processes used to produce biofuels are costly compared
to fossil fuels.
4. Lower Energy Output
Biofuels usually provide less energy per litre than petrol or diesel.
Usage in Pakistan
Pakistan mainly produces biogas from animal waste and bagasse (sugarcane
waste) from sugar mills.
Bioethanol is produced from sugarcane molasses and used in blending with
petrol.
