Regional Importance
1. Strategic Location
Pakistan lies at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia, and the
Middle East.
Acts as a bridge between the oil-rich Middle East, resource-rich Central
Asia, and populous South Asia.
2. Warm Water Ports
Karachi Port and Port Qasim: major seaports handling most trade.
Gwadar Port: a deep-sea warm water port near the Persian Gulf, close to
Strait of Hormuz (world’s main oil shipping route).
Gives Pakistan huge geo-economic and geo-political value.
3. China Connection
Through CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor), Pakistan connects
China to the Arabian Sea via Gwadar.
Provides China access to warm waters and shortens its trade route to
the Middle East and Africa.
