Q5. Evaluate whether Pakistan should prioritize non-metallic mineral
extraction over fossil fuel minerals in its long-term mineral strategy. (10)
Model answer (structure):
Pros of prioritizing non-metallic:
more abundant; less environmental damage
compared tofossil fuelburning;supports construction and infrastructure growth;
relatively easier to process; lower risk of depletion in near future.
Cons: non-metallic minerals often have lower profit margins; demand fluctuates; some
fossil fuels are important for energy security; fossil fuels have established export
markets.
Conclusion: Balanced approach needed. Pakistan should leverage non-metallic
minerals for sustainable development and infrastructure, while also carefully exploiting
fossil fuels with environmental safeguards.
