to alpine forests, whereas lower slopes support subtropical and pine forests.
Explain two reasons for the development of irrigated plantations in the Indus Plain.
Sample Answer:
1. Low natural forest cover: The Indus Plain receives little rainfall, so artificial
irrigation allows trees like Shisham and Kikar to grow where natural forests
cannot.
2. Economic demand: There is a high need for timber and fuelwood for industry
and domestic use, so plantations were created to supply these needs.
Describe two uses of mangrove forests.
Sample Answer:
1. Coastal protection: Mangroves act as a natural barrier against sea erosion,
cyclones, and tidal waves.
2. Fish breeding grounds: They provide habitat for fish, shrimp, and other marine
life, supporting the local fishing industry.
