4. Zilzal (99)
b)The surah serves as a powerful warning and reminder of accountability. It urges Muslims to
abandon sin and live righteously, in constant awareness of the Day of Judgment. Belief in divine
justice strengthens moral discipline — motivating Muslims to perform good deeds such as
honesty, charity, and obedience to God’s commandments, while avoiding falsehood, gossip, and
dishonesty. It also emphasizes the temporary nature of worldly life, detaching Muslims from
material obsession and redirecting their focus to the Hereafter. The surah provides comfort in
knowing that no good deed will go unrewarded and no evil will escape God’s justice, nurturing
hope, sincerity, and perseverance in faith.
a)This surah describes the Last Day — the moment when the earth will be shaken by a
tremendous earthquake and cast out all that lies within it. It portrays God as Al-Mumīt, the One
who has the power to destroy His own creation. The verse, “When the earth is flattened out and
throws out whatever it contains and gets empty” (84:3–4), illustrates the total upheaval of the
world. The earth will testify against humankind, revealing their deeds and misdeeds — even acts
of environmental neglect or moral corruption. Justice will be delivered perfectly, as God will
judge every deed, great or small, and assign eternal reward or punishment accordingly.
