in Makkah.
?
Sample Questions – Āmina
10-mark: Describe the role of Āmina in the Prophet’s early life.
4-mark: What lessons can Muslims learn from the Prophet ﷺ being raised as an orphan?
Abū Ṭālib’s life shows the importance of loyalty, though faith is what ultimately saves a person.
Muslims learn that even the Prophet ﷺ could not guide those whom Allah did not will.
(Qur’ān 28:56 – “Indeed, you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills.”)
Muslims learn that Allah’s wisdom in raising the Prophet ﷺ without parents was to show His
special care and preparation for Prophethood. From Āmina’s story, we see the importance of
maternal love and sacrifice.
Her death was a turning point in the Prophet’s life — he lost both parents at a young age. This
orphanhood is referenced in the Qur’ān: “Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter?”
(93:6). Āmina’s role is remembered as the one who gave birth to and nurtured the Messenger of
Allah ﷺ.
She personally witnessed signs of greatness in her son. Narrations state that she saw a light
when she gave birth that illuminated the palaces of Syria. She nurtured the Prophet until he was
entrusted to his wet nurse Ḥalīmah. When he was six, she took him to Yathrib (later Madinah) to
visit his maternal relatives, but on the return journey she fell ill and died at al-Abwāʾ, leaving the
Prophet ﷺ an orphan.
Āmina (RA) was the mother of the Prophet ﷺ, from the noble Banū Zuhrah clan of Quraysh. She
married ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, and shortly after, he passed away while she was still
pregnant. The Prophet ﷺ was born in 570 CE, the “Year of the Elephant.” Āmina raised him in his
earliest years with deep love and devotion.
