The Day of Judgment can be understood in three major phases.
The seas will boil and overflow, and all living beings will perish.
“Before them is a partition (Barzakh) until the day they are resurrected.”
(Al-Mu’minun 23:100)
The sun will be darkened, stars will fade and disperse, the earth will split apart,
mountains will crumble and drift away.
Then, with the sounding of the second trumpet, all beings—including humans,
angels, and jinn—will be resurrected.
The Quran Says:
“Then will a second blast be blown, and behold, they will be standing and looking
on.” (68-69)
“It is a day when mankind will be like scattered moths, and the mountains will be
like fluffed wool.” (Al-Qari’ah 101:4-5)
Islam teaches that after death, a soul enters a waiting stage known as Barzakh,
which continues until the Day of Resurrection.
In Barzakh, the minor questioning begins when the angels ask about one’s religion,
Prophet, and Lord.
The comfort or torment in this phase reflects one’s eternal destination—Paradise or
Hell.
Souls remain in Barzakh until they are raised again.
Allah mentions in the Quran:
Life on earth will end at a predetermined moment. Everything in the universe will be
destroyed.
This day is known as Qiyamah, a day of chaos and overwhelming noise.
People will run in panic and confusion; even mothers will abandon their children,
and each person will only think of themselves.
Allah describes it in the Quran in the words:
Every Muslim must firmly believe that earthly life will eventually end.
Humanity will be revived and gathered before Allah where each individual will be
held accountable.
Every person will be presented with the record of their actions and questioned about
how they lived in this world.
“One day We shall remove the mountains and you will see the earth as a level plain.”
(20:100)
