Sample Questions – Ḥamzah (RA)
10-mark: Write about Ḥamzah’s role in the early battles of Islam.
4-mark: What lessons can Muslims learn from Ḥamzah’s bravery and martyrdom?
He fought in Badr with great bravery, killing several Quraysh leaders. At Uḥud, he fought
fearlessly with two swords, cutting through the enemy ranks. However, he was martyred by
Wahshī, a slave of Jubayr, who threw a spear that pierced him. Hind, the wife of Abū Sufyān,
mutilated his body in revenge.
Ḥamzah defended the Prophet ﷺ openly, making Quraysh think twice before attacking him.
His courage made him one of the most important supporters of Islam in its early days.
Ḥamzah (RA) was the Prophet’s paternal uncle and only two years older than him. He was a
strong and fearless warrior, widely respected in Quraysh. He accepted Islam after hearing that
Abū Jahl insulted the Prophet ﷺ; out of loyalty and anger, he struck Abū Jahl and declared
that he had accepted Muhammad’s religion. His conversion was a major boost for the Muslims,
giving them a powerful protector.
Ḥamzah teaches bravery, standing for truth, and sacrifice for Islam. His life shows that loyalty to
the Prophet ﷺ requires courage in the face of enemies.
The Prophet ﷺ grieved deeply over his death, calling him “Sayyid al-Shuhadāʾ” (Leader of the
Martyrs). His sacrifice at Uḥud remains one of the most moving examples of devotion.
