2.Why is Saʿīd remembered in connection with ʿUmar’s conversion?
1.What lessons can Muslims learn from Saʿīd’s sincerity and humility?
1.Write about the role of Saʿīd ibn Zayd in the early Muslim community.
2.Describe how Saʿīd contributed to the spread of Islam despite being less known than
others.
Saʿīd lived into the time of the Umayyads and passed away around 671 CE. He was buried in
Madinah. The Prophet ﷺ included him among the ten promised Paradise, which secured his
place in Islamic history. Though less prominent than others, he was a steadfast, loyal
Companion remembered for his consistency in faith.
Abū ʿUbaydah (RA) was born in Makkah in 583 CE into the Banū al-Ḥārith clan of Quraysh. He
was among the earliest converts through the invitation of Abū Bakr (RA). Known for his honesty
and trustworthiness, he quickly earned the love of the Prophet ﷺ.
Saʿīd migrated to Madinah and participated in almost all the major campaigns with the Prophet
, including Uḥud, Khandaq, and others. He missed the Battle of Badr because the Prophet
had sent him and Ṭalḥah on a mission, but they were still counted among the participants
and given a share of the spoils. He was known for his bravery and sincerity, yet he lived humbly,
avoiding fame.
Saʿīd’s life shows the importance of quiet devotion and perseverance. He teaches that not every
great Muslim must be famous — loyalty, faith, and sincerity are enough to earn Allah’s pleasure.
