3. ʿĀʾishah bint Abī Bakr (RA)
ʿĀʾishah was the daughter of Abū Bakr (RA), married to the Prophet ﷺ in Madīnah. She
became one of the most knowledgeable Companions, narrating more than 2,000 ḥadīth.
The Qur’ān revealed her innocence in the case of slander: “Indeed, those who brought forward
the lie are a group among you… Allah has made it clear that she is innocent of what they say.”
(Qur’ān, al-Nūr 24:11, 16).

Impact. She is remembered as the custodian of the Qur’ān manuscripts, playing a central role
in preserving Islam’s primary source.
After the Prophet’s death, she safeguarded the manuscripts of the Qur’ān compiled under Abū
Bakr. Later, ʿUthmān ibn Affān requested them to make standard copies: “ʿUthmān sent to
Ḥafṣah saying: ‘Send us themanuscripts so that we may compile them into perfect copies and
return them to you.’” (aīal-Bukhārī).
Known as “Umm al-Masākīn” (Mother of the Poor), she was famous for her charity even before
marrying the Prophet ﷺ.
Her marriage lasted only a few months before she passed away. Despite its short duration, her
legacy of generosity made her beloved in the community. “Righteousness is to believe in Allah,
the Last Day… and to give wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy…”
(Qur’ān, al-Baqarah 2:177). Her life embodied this verse.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The superiority of Āʿʾishah over women is like the superiority of tharīd (a
dish of meat and bread) over all other foods.” (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī). Companions like Abū Mūsā al-
Ashʿarī said: “Whenever we faced a problem in knowledge, we asked Āʿʾishah and always found
she had some knowledge about it.” (Tirmidhī).
Impact. She played a decisive role in preserving Sunnah, explaining Qur’ān, and teaching fiqh.
She remains a model for scholarship and piety.
