Quranic Passages 1. Ayat al Kursi (2:255) 1. Choose any two of the following passages from the Qur’an, and: (a) Briefly describe the main theme(s) in each passage. [4] (b) Briefly explain the importance of the themes in the daily living of Muslims. [4] Allah in Himself a)This verse revolves around the central theme of Allah in Himself and is known as Ayat al-Kursi (The Throne Verse). It begins with the declaration of Allah’s Oneness and expands on His divine nature, highlighting that He is beyond all human limitations. Allah is eternal, ever-living, and completely independent, while everything else depends on Him. He neither sleeps nor tires, which symbolizes His perfect awareness and power — nothing can ever distract Him from His control over the universe. His Kursi (Throne) represents absolute authority, signifying that He is the true King over everything that exists. His power never weakens, His dominion never ends, and His knowledge encompasses all things. As mentioned in another verse, “To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth” (6:101). b)It holds immense significance for Muslims as it offers deep insight into Allah’s power and protection. The Prophet (PBUH) described Ayat al-Kursi as one of the treasures of Paradise, emphasizing its great value. It reminds Muslims that Allah’s knowledge extends over everything and that His control is constant — inspiring believers to act sincerely and stay mindful of Him at all times. The verse teaches that Allah is self-sustaining and unaffected by weakness or fatigue, which enables Muslims to place complete trust in Him rather than relying on worldly means. Reciting this verse regularly, especially before sleeping, is a common practice among Muslims seeking Allah’s protection and peace. It strengthens faith, guards against shirk, and reminds believers that only Allah deserves their full devotion and reliance.
