5. Naas (114)
a)This surah portrays God’s sovereignty and protective power over all creation. It highlights
three divine attributes — Rabb (Lord and Sustainer), Malik (King), and Ilah (God worthy of
worship). God instructs believers to seek refuge in Him from all forms of evil, whether from
visible enemies, hidden beings such as jinn, or the whisperings of Satan in human hearts. Since
God alone controls all creation, only He has the power to protect and deliver from harm. The
Qur’an reminds: “If a suggestion from Satan assails your mind, seek refuge with Allah.”
b)This surah teaches Muslims that true protection and refuge lie only in God, and seeking it
elsewhere leads to shirk. It cultivates awareness of spiritual and moral dangers — such as jealousy,
temptation, or evil thoughts — and encourages constant vigilance. By regularly reciting this surah,
along with Surah Al-Falaq, Muslims strengthen their reliance on God and protect themselves from
evil influences. The Prophet ﷺ frequently recited these two surahs (known as al-Mu‘awwidhatayn)
for protection from jinn, black magic, and the evil eye. It instills trust in God’s power, control, and
mercy, reminding Muslims to turn to Him in every difficulty. Daily recitation brings comfort,
strengthens faith, and fosters spiritual security.
